BRENT & MELISSA WINDSOR
Before purchasing a Window Genie franchise, Brent and Melissa decided to relocate from a small town in Kansas to Phoenix to be near family and start over. Brent said, “We always thought we might own a business one day, but living in a very small town in Kansas for many years, it was never realistic. We always knew we’d end up in Phoenix, so when we made the decision this past year to quit our jobs and move out west, we thought now was a good time to make both those dreams a reality.”
Having worked the last 12 years as a director of marketing for an automotive aftermarket company, Brent recognizes the branding potential in his new hometown for a business like Window Genie. “We think the Gilbert and Chandler areas are a great fit for our new company. It’s very residential, with a small town atmosphere. We’re confident in the potential a family-run small business like Window Genie has in a community like this. The services we offer are in demand, and the people out here are dedicated to the upkeep of their properties. Window Genie is going to be a hit.”
Melissa most recently worked as the executive director of a non-profit arts organization. She hopes her experience in community outreach and networking will help Window Genie develop a loyal customer base. “Brent and I offer a variety of skills that will help us build this business. It’s exciting that the nature of our business brings us into so many homes and businesses every day. I see it as a really great opportunity to get plugged into the community and build lasting relationships.”
Brent and Melissa learned about Window Genie while working with a franchise coach who helped them determine which franchise opportunities best fit their goals, interests, strengths and weaknesses. After narrowing down their list to about five potential business opportunities, the Windsors said Window Genie rose to the top and stayed there. “Our coach helped us focus on the ownership aspect of each business, not the product or service offered. Once we viewed each option from an owner’s perspective, we locked in on Window Genie,” Brent said.
“The culture at Window Genie is what ultimately sold us,” said Melissa. “While speaking with everyone from the CEO to existing franchise partners with Window Genie, it’s evident they’re all passionate, excited and invested in what they’re doing. It was just such a positive experience anytime we interacted with Window Genie on any front, so it was definitely a big influence on our decision because we needed a team we could trust.”
Before purchasing a Window Genie franchise, Smith worked for 19 years with Johnson and Johnson in a variety of roles from marketing to sales and training. Two years ago Smith left his job to start a medical consulting and technology company with a business partner. Smith said, “I was enjoying what we were doing and knew business ownership was the right thing for me, but I was travelling too much. With three young kids and a wife that just didn’t work so I began looking around again for a different ownership opportunity.”
Smith decided to work with a franchise coach to help him narrow down a list of franchise opportunities. Smith said, “Franchise coaches are good at getting you to talk about yourself, so I think he was able to really get to know me and what my goals and interests were.”
Window Genie was among the five opportunities initially presented to Smith. He said, “Right off the bat Window Genie stood out for its branding; it’s extremely cool. I was also drawn to the business because after 20 years of working in medicine, I felt interacting with homeowners on a much more personal basis and on something they greatly value, their home, would be a nice change.” Another aspect of the Window Genie business that Smith liked was the support and passion he felt from both the corporate staff and existing franchisees. He said, “I was so impressed when I met the corporate staff. Being alongside a team I can trust and a system of fellow franchise partners who are excited and invested in what they do is important to me.”
Ultimately when it came to making a decision that was best for his family, Smith chose Window Genie. He said, “Window Genie being a mobile business that I can run out of my home fit the bill when it came to finding the work-life balance that I’ve been missing. Having control over my schedule means I’ll never miss another holiday, another family dinner or have to look back and say I wish I’d been around more. Working in and serving my community through Window Genie is what excites me the most.”
